For six innings at Cupertino on Saturday afternoon, fans were treated to a pitchers duel between Cupertino’s Josh Longabaugh and Gunderson’s Robert Ruiz. A throwing error in the top of the seventh was followed by a 2 RBI double. Gunderson added another 3 runs before finally being retired, with a 5-0 lead, and that is how it ended, as the Pioneers were unable to answer back in the bottom of the inning.

At the beginning of the week came the realization that Cupertino starter Josh Longabaugh has exceeded his weekly pitching limit and should have never been allowed set foot on the mound in the seventh. After he threw his first pitch, Cupertino had forfeited. Had the violation been discovered at that time, the game would have been stopped and awarded to Overfelt with a score of 7-0. Had Cupertino won, the win would have been set aside, and the same 7-0 score would have been recorded. Since it wasn’t discovered during the game, and since Cupertino lost, the box score remains the same, but with the addition of a notation of the forfeit.

Ben Townsend provided Cupertino’s sole offense with two singles.

With the loss, Cupertino’s record is now 2-8, 8-12.
