The Cupertino Pioneers baseball team upset the defending DII champion Branham Bruins 1-0 on Thursday night to advance to the championship game of the Ted Tamone Memorial Tournament against Hillsdale, on Saturday at 7pm. at Washington Park.

The game was a pitchers duel which saw no earned runs recorded. Cupertino starter Josh Longabaugh, a junior, gave up no hits over six, striking out five, while Branahm starter Chris Kiefer, also a junior, struck out 12 over six, gave up no earned runs, yet came out of the evening with a loss.

With the win, the Pioneers go to 2-0, a nice start for the team and new head coach Pete Hernandez.

Following the game was a display of uncommonly good sportsmanship as Branham players came into stands, shook hands, and thanked Cupertino fans for coming.
