The Milpitas Trojans defeated the Cupertino Pioneers 7-1 in an El Camino Division varsity baseball game at Cupertino on Thursday afternoon.
Cupertino matched Milpitas in hits with 7, but came up 6 short in runs.
The baseball gods seemed to be mad at the Pioneers, adding assorted insult to injury throughout the game, highlighted by a Trojan batter advancing all the way to third after striking out, and a runner being called safe at third after an apparent inning-ending tag which saw the defense jogging off of the field. If the sprinklers had come on and caused a rain delay, it wouldn't have been out of character with the afternoon.
With the loss, Cupertino falls to 1-5, 0-2 while Milpitas improves to 5-3, 2-0.
Alan Vigent had a pair of singles and an RBI, Morgan Saenz crushed a triple to right, and Josh Longabaugh, Riley Waite, Jacob Alexander, and Anthony Pozzetti all had singles.
The Pioneers host Sacred Heart Cathedral on Saturday at noon, with the Frosh/Soph following at 3:00pm.
