The Cupertino High School Varsity lost 5-4 in a SCVAL De Anza Division baseball game at Fremont High School on Thursday.

After falling behind Fremont early 2-0, Cupertino eventually came back to tie and then take a 4-3 lead, but Fremont wouldn't give up as they put up single runs to tie the game in the fifth and then go ahead for good in the sixth.

Alan Vigent collected his first extra-base hit of the year, crushing a 2 RBI triple in the fourth.

With the loss the Pioneers lost the opportunity to move within 1 game of the Firebirds and control their own destiny, instead falling to 3 games back. The two teams meet again at Cupertino on May 13, the final game of the season.

Thursday's win keeps Fremont in a tie for first with Milpitas atop the El Camino. The third and final meeting between those two teams on May 13 will decide who owns the tiebreaker.
