Cupertino Wins Against Santa Clara

The Cupertino High School Pioneers defeated the Santa Clara High School Bruins 15-0 in a SCVAL El Camino Division varsity baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Cupertino.

Ben Champion was perfect through four and one-third before finally giving up a hit. Champion went on to pitch six shutout innings and pick up the win, his third against one defeat. Kyle Avvakumovits came on in relief in the seventh and preserved the shutout.

Anthony Pozzetti topped the Pioneers' offense going four for five with three singles, a double, and an RBI. Ten players combined for a total of twenty-three hits.

With the win the Pioneers improve to 4-3, 6-8.

Tuesday's game was the first of three between Cupertino and Santa Clara in 2014. The two teams meet again on Thursday night at 7:00pm at Washington Park in Santa Clara.
