The Cupertino High School varsity baseball team lost its league opener with El Camino Division opponent Milpitas 6-1 on Tuesday at Cupertino. Scoreless after five, Milpitas led 2-1 after six, but after a disputed hit batsman call with two out in the top of the seventh, the wheels came off, with Milpitas scoring 4 times to take a 6-1 lead.

Youseph Pavolic flirted with danger throughout, but went 6 2/3 and pitched well enough to win, but it was one of those days, and the pieces didn’t fall into place either offensively or defensively.

Matt Kuhl doubled in the fourth for Cupertino’s first hit of the day. Kyle Avvakumovits doubled in the sixth and was driven in by Stan Sumibcay for Cupertino’s only run of the day.
