Cupertino High School’s Varsity fell 4-1 to Sacred Heart Cathedral in a non-league game played on Thursday afternoon at Westborough Park in South San Francisco.

Cupertino scored first in the top of the first as Stan Sumibcay doubled, and was then driven home by a Matt Kuhl single. Sacred Heart scored one in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at one apiece, and that’s the way it remained until the bottom of the fifth when the Irish scored three times to take a 4-1 lead, which they maintained. Alan Vigient added one other hit for the Pioneers, but that was it for the afternoon as Sacred Heart’s starter Tyler Martinez went the distance, allowing only three hits, no walks and striking out five.
