Two days after being shut out 6-0 at home by Monta Vista, Cupertino's varsity came out on top 6-0 at Monta Vista in a SCVAL El Camino Division contest on Thursday afternoon.

Monta Vista threatened repeatedly, but Cupertino made the key defensive plays when they needed them. The Matadors had the bases loaded for the second time in the game with nobody out in the second inning when Kavin Mistry came on in relief and ended the threat. Mistry went on to pitch five shutout innings and pick up the win. Matt Kuhl came on to close in the seventh.

Stan Sumibcay had a two hit day, getting Cupertino's first hit of the game with a double in the first, and then a single in the fourth. Matt Kuhl had a single, double and sacrifice fly. Morgan Saenz singled in the fourth, then crushed one to deep center in the seventh, picking up a ground rule double and recording an RBI for his second hit of the day. Daniel Kono and Tony Uribe each had a single.
