Pioneers Split With Berkeley

Cupertino High School hosted Berkeley High School for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 in the Varsity game, but coming from behind to win 5-3 in the Frosh/Soph contest.

In the Varsity game, Kavin Mistry went the distance against Berkeley on Saturday at Cupertino, giving up just four hits and pitching well enough to win, but the team came up short.

Jacob Alexander had a single and a double as Cupertino's Varsity pounded out nine hits, outhitting Berkeley 9-4, but was able to score only once, in the first when Matt Kuhl reached first on an error Alan Vigent had a pair of singles, and Daniel Kono, Morgan Saenz, Adam Apolinar, Tony Uribe and Matt Kuhl all had hits.

In the second game, Riley Waite picked up the win in relief as the Frosh/Soph, who trailed for most of the game, came back from a two run deficient, scoring four times in the bottom of the fifth and beating Berkeley 5-3 in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.

Ben Champion had two singles, and Joel Banholzer, Liam Har-El, Jason Silveira, Miles Joyce, Anthony Pozzetti and Riley Waite all had a hit apiece.
