Football 2014: Pioneers Finish With Senior Night Loss

The Monta Vista Matadors defeated the Cupertino Pioneers by a score of 30-7 on Friday Night at Cupertino.

The teams each had impressive drives to start, but neither led to any scoring. Monta Vista finally broke through early in the second quarter when Max McCann burst around the right side for a 37 yard touchdown run. The half ended with the score 7-0 in favor of the Matadors.

The second half started horribly for Cupertino. Pozzetti’s first pass of the second half was intercepted by Pranav Iyer and returned to the CHS 13 yard line. From there, Monta Vista’s Sam Nastari ran it in on the first play of the drive. On the very first play of Cupertino’s next possession, they turned it over again, this time on a fumble which MV’s Iyer returned down to the 4 yard line. Once again, it was Nastari who carried it in, for his second TD run. Amir Bashti’s 35 yard field goal put the Matadors up 24-0. In the fourth quarter, Nastari scored his 3rd touchdown of the night, this one a 91-yard touchdown run.  Cupertino finally scored late in the game on a pass from Anthony Pozzetti to Ben Murray for a 12 yard TD reception.

The Pioneers finish the season at 5-5, 2-4.
