Varsity Wins In Eight Against Monta Vista

Cupertino came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Monta Vista 4-3 in extra innings in an El Camino Division game Thursday afternoon at Cupertino.

The Matadors scored one in the top of the first when Sam Nastari doubled, driving in Kevin Nordby from third, and then scored two more in the second on a single by Shiron Drusinsky amd on a sacrifice fly by Cole Erickson.

The Pioneers scored their first run of the day on an error in the bottom of the third, and two more in the fourth on RBI singles by Daniel Kono and Josh Longabaugh.

The score remained tied 3-3 until the bottom of the eighth when Josh Longabaugh broke the tie with a walk-off single, driving in Jason Silveira to give Cupertino a 4-3 victory.

Cupertino: Josh Longabaugh 3 singles and 2 RBIs, Daniel Kono 2 singles and an RBI, and Kyle Avvakumovits, Riley Waite and Anthony Pozzetti 1 single each.  Ben Champion, starter, four innings, no decision. Josh Longabaugh, four innings in relief, win.

Monta Vista: Sam Nastari double and an RBI, Shiron Drusinsky and Cole Erickson single and an RBI, Matt Woodard 2 singles and Kevin Nordby, and Danny McGarry 1 single each. Surya Kumaraguru, starter, four innings, no decision. Ian Young, four innings in relief, loss.

With the win, Cupertino improves to improves to 4-8, 3-3, while the Matadors fall to 3-7, 0-4.
