The Cupertino Pioneers lost 3-2 to the Santa Clara Bruins Thursday night in a SCVAL El Camino Division game under the lights at Washington Park. Santa Clara's first batter, Ethan Dembowski, stuck out but reached first safely, a fact for which the baseball gods punished Cupertino, sending him across the plate a couple of minutes later on a CJ Sousa single to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. The Bruins added a second run in the third. Cupertino came back in the fifth, adding a run on a Ben Champion single, and a second when Jacob Alexander walked with the bases loaded. Tied at 2-2 with one out in the bottom of the seventh, Ethan Dembowski nailed a double down the right field line to score Peter Soto and give Santa Clara the win. With the loss Cupertino falls to 6-9, 4-4 while Santa Clara improves to 6-11, 2-6. The two teams, tied with one game apiece against each other in 2014, meet next on May 8.
