Open Division Approved for CCS

Beginning this year, the CIF Central Coast Section Baseball Tournament will add an Open Division and drop Division III.

The 16 spots in the Open Division will be filled by (1) “A” league champions and (2) teams who have requested to opt-in to the Open Division. Note that some "A" leagues have multiple champions, awarding championships to both their regular season and playoff winners, and in these cases both teams would advance to the Open Division. Any remaining spots will be filled by teams based upon their CCS point totals.

The intent of the change is to raise the level of competition by eliminating mismatches between the strongest teams in the section and "B" or "C" league teams who under the previous rules would have been elevated to the top division on the basis of their CBEDS enrollment.  Non "A" league champions will have the option of requesting to opt-in to the Open Division, up until noon on the day of the seeding meeting.

The remaining 32 teams will be allocated to Division I and Division II based upon their CBEDS enrollment.

As in past years, 40 teams will receive automatic berths, with the remaining 8 berths being filled by at-large teams.

See the CCS Baseball page and the 2014 Bylaws (PDF) for complete details.
