Alteration of bats, including rolling, and shaving, which results in a change to the bat’s specs or the enhancement of its performance, is illegal under NFHS rules.  See: NFHS Baseball Rules Book, Rule 1, Section 3, Article 2, and Altering of Bats, under  Points of Emphasis on page 65.

The NFHS has set a goal of incorporating tamper detecting technology in all bats manufactured after January 1, 2015.
